Margin

Investments in financial instruments such as futures, options and index participations carry with them a substantial risk. One of the reasons for the increased risk level is the fact that a significant financial leverage is used while constructing the margin and that one needs to keep only a small amount of money as a margin, compared to the value of the financial instrument.

Being aware of what the obligatory way of making settlements is, as well as having the ability to manage them appropriately, allow one to minimise the risk. As our aim is to support investors, particularly in such a difficult issue as this, we present a short guide to the regulations in force and to the tools that allow one to reduce the risk in an expert manner.

Supplementation of a margin

If the value of a margin falls below the level that represents 100% of the maintenance margin determined by the National Depository for Securities, the client is obliged to supplement the margin to at least that level by 8:30 am of the next settlement day after the day when the fall occurred. ING Securities does not take the initial margin.

In the event of the customer’s necessity to supplement the margin to the required amount (for whom services are offered via Internet applications), ING Securities S.A expresses a demand to supplement the margin by the client:
  • via the Internet applications or
  • via a phone call or text message if the client ordered such disposal. This disposal can be ordered via a phone call to the Call Centre, or personally at any Customer Service

In the event of the ignorance of the conditions by the client, ING Securities S.A. closes the client’s open items.

If during the session the margin falls below 50% of the maintenance margin determined by the National Depository for Securities, ING Securities S.A may close the items opened in derivatives based on the authorisation granted by the client.

Foregoing issues are regulated by the registrations of the art. 4-6  Umowy o świadczenie usług w zakresie derywatów and item 88-89 of the Regulations.
